Though spiritual darkness has had a tight grip on Southeast Asia, the light of the gospel cannot be contained.
A pastor in Southeast Asia named Tuong attended an East-West discipleship training called Four Fields, inspired by the teachings in Mark 4.
“He also said, ‘This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.’” -Mark 4:26-29
Through the Four Fields training, Tuong learned a simple, reproducible church planting strategy. He was so inspired by what he learned that he decided to share this training with his friend, Kim.
Kim lives in a rural part of Southeast Asia, where it is difficult to reach others with the gospel. Many of her friends and family live in this area, and Kim longs to see them know Jesus. Tuong sat with Kim in front of her home and taught her the Four Fields.
Kim realized how simple it would be to teach this model to other believers. Farmers especially could relate to the agricultural metaphors of the training. So Kim went to the countryside and taught this training to a group of 50 people. What she witnessed next was incredible.
Those 50 believers took what they learned and began multiplying disciples and churches throughout the area. Those new disciples have already made more disciples and planted other churches. The gospel was spreading faster than Kim had seen in her entire 15 years of ministry. She feels blessed to play a small part in God’s mission in Southeast Asia.
Because the Church—from as far west as America to as far east as Asia—came together on a single mission, light is spreading and disciples and churches are being multiplied in this unreached part of the world.
