The Biblical Portrait of God’s Voice

Do you ever wonder what the roar of God sounds like—that roar of victory for God’s people? Oh, if we could just hear it with our spiritual ears. How majestic and marvelous it must be that all of Heaven and Earth pause in its glorious thunder. It’s a roar not of passivity but of a conquering cry for God’s people! In fact, after Jesus breathed His last on the cross, the Earth shook with a victorious thundering.

“Keep listening to the thunder of his voice and the rumbling that comes from his mouth… After it his voice roars; he thunders with his majestic voice, and he does not restrain the lightnings when his voice is heard.” -Job 37:2,4 (ESV)

“And behold, the glory of the God of Israel was coming from the east. And the sound of his coming was like the sound of many waters, and the earth shone with his glory.” -Ezekiel 43:2 (ESV)

“They shall go after the Lord ; he will roar like a lion; when he roars, his children shall come trembling from the west;” -Hosea 11:10 (ESV)

“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.” -2 Peter 3:10 (ESV)

“And called out with a loud voice, like a lion roaring. When he called out, the seven thunders sounded.” -Revelation 10:3 (ESV)

Your conquering King is roaring in victory over you right now!

Understanding God’s Authority Through Scripture

I looked up the meaning of the word “roar” in the original language, and it is a verb which means: to roar, of a lion, conqueror, Jehovah, cry of distress, rumble or moan, mightily roar. It’s not passive or descriptive in nature but rather the very action of a passionate and mighty God. You have to believe that Jesus is roaring for His people. For some, He is roaring for them to come awake; and to others, He’s declaring His victory over your enemies. He is moving and speaking and acting on your behalf. He doesn’t passively sit by. He comes to your defense. Your conquering King comes with glory and power.

He declares His roar of victory over your family!

He declares His roar of victory over your marriage!

He declares His roar of victory over your health!

He declares His roar of victory over your finances!

He declares His roar of victory over your future!

The enemy also has a voice that growls at Christ in you!

“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” -1 Peter 5:8 (ESV)

Take note that he’s “like” a roaring lion, hoping we crouch in fear of him. We don’t need to fear his threatening growl, but we do need to discern his words. The Bride of Christ needs the gift of wisdom and discernment right now. We need to be able to discern who is growling and speaking lies. There’s a war for our faith and a war for our worship. And don’t think for a minute the enemy isn’t trying to emulate the sound of God in our ears, to lead us astray. He’s crafty and he’s a liar, but he won’t win. It’s time to have our ears tuned sharply into the voice of God and His voice alone. Be aware of your enemy as he’s an opportunist and a savage, but his wimpy roar means nothing over your life.

I feel I need to share a portion of a recent prophetic word that Lana Vawser wrote. It ministered to me and I have read it over and over several times.

“… [T]hese battle-weary saints have lost their ROAR in the battle. They have lost their voice and the ferociousness that they once walked in because the battle has been so intense, but the Lord is moving in power to RESTORE THE ROAR of these battle-weary ones.

“… [N]ot only is God raising them back up again in resurrection power as burning ones, burning with the fire of His love, passion, and presence, but He is raising them up in FIERCE BOLDNESS.

“These ones were HUNTED by the enemy but the resurrection power of God is coming upon them so strongly right now that they are now becoming the HUNTERS. They are the ones being sent out on assignment from the Lord with the ROAR of the Lion of Judah within them and through them that will bring an OVERTURNING to the enemy’s plans. They are being sent forth as DREAD CHAMPIONS to be used by the Holy Spirit to demolish and shatter strongholds and many schemes of the enemy.

“The enemy tried to break and kill these ones, and the Lord is now restoring and resurrecting them in His power to be ones who will carry deep intercessory burdens to see the resurrection power of Jesus explode in the lives of individuals, in cities and nations.“The enemy overplayed his hand.

“The Lord is restoring the roar of these battle-weary saints. No longer will they be called battle-weary, but the ferocious burning ones arising in the earth releasing the ROAR of the Lion of Judah, from the place of deep intimacy, deep humility and the sacred place of locked eyes with the One whose eyes burn with flames of fire (Revelation 19:12)

Finding Confidence in God’s Sovereignty

Are you ready to join your voice with His to shake foundations and declare the sounds of Heaven?

“After this I heard what seemed to be the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, crying out, “Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God, Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready;” -Revelation 19:1,6-7 (ESV)

You have a lion inside of you, dear sisters, who is roaring with a victory cry. It’s time to join our voices with the roar of Heaven and worship Him. It’s the cry of a victor giving our King His rightful adoration and praise. Nothing else in our lives deserves the worship that our victorious warrior is due. Let’s open our mouths and give Him the praise He deserves! Open your mouths and roar!
