Lucas sat on his front porch, observing three people strolling through his neighborhood in Latin America. The white skin of one of the strangers caught his attention, and he beckoned them to his doorstep.
He soon learned they were a Christian missionary team that included two local believers and an American.
The First Steps
Lucas’s memory flashed back to his prison days when he first read books on Christianity. He was curious about the faith and how it differed from the Santeria idols he worshipped daily and displayed in tattooed ink on his arms. Despite the time he spent reading behind bars, he still didn’t understand the Christian message.
These visitors were his opportunity to learn more, so Lucas eagerly welcomed them to share about their faith.
The Moment of Coming to Faith
The American missionary began to share her story and the gospel. When she finished, the clouds fogging Lucas’s understanding of Christianity instantly parted as he came to fully understand the grace of God displayed by the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.
Lucas responded by saying, “I wish I had always known this story about Jesus,” and chose to follow Christ that day.
