A short-term missionary started sharing the gospel with a group of women when Rochan approached. The others tensed in his presence, and they moved to give him a seat of honor … he was a Brahmin priest and ranked high in the Hindu caste system.
Sharing Despite Opposition
The missionary knew Rochan was ready to object if anything she shared rubbed him the wrong way, but she shared the story that changed her life anyway.
She told the group about her Savior—Jesus—and what He did for all people by dying on the cross and raising from the grave. Rochan listened and the missionary watched his reactions change from accusing to concerned.
Making the Choice Amid Fear of Persecution
When she finished her story, Rochan spoke up, saying, “We want to believe, but we know that people will oppose and persecute us. We’re really scared to become Christians.”
Tears welled in the missionary’s eyes as she promised Rochan and the group that following Jesus was worth the cost … she knew their choice was one far more difficult than most American Christians would ever face.
Making the Choice for Christ
At her consolation, Rochan made his decision. He knew the persecution many Christian converts faced, but he couldn’t deny Jesus any longer. Rochan’s hand was the first of many to raise and accept the gospel that day.
