In East Asia, the schemes of the enemy run rampant under the grip of atheistic communist regimes. These governments actively suppress religious expression, enforcing ideologies that deny the existence of God. Citizens are not only told there is no God, they are taught that if He does exist, He is irrelevant to their lives. Generations have grown up without ever hearing the name of Jesus or experiencing the love and truth of the gospel.
The spiritual climate across this vast region varies widely. In some provinces, the gospel has taken root, and faithful churches are working tirelessly to share Christ’s love. In others, darkness still reigns. Entire communities remain completely unreached with no access to a local church, Scripture, or even a single believer. East-West is reaching out to these people and showing them how to grow in God’s grace.
God nudged David and Katherine to shepherd a flock in a region they never expected—East Asia—by teaching English in the university system. Their influence in the classroom gives them unique access outside the classroom as well to share the gospel with unreached students.
Each week, they meet with students—believers and nonbelievers—at local establishments and in their home to explain their Christian faith and disciple those who choose to follow Christ. Through their work as missionaries, God is faithfully drawing people into saving faith and starting a new church in their home.
Students come in and out freely to gather in their living room to fellowship with each other and be discipled. And as these students grow in knowledge and obedience in all that Christ commanded—including making disciples—they are leading others to faith, fueling the Church’s growth in this spiritually dark place.
