As Veneta West and her translator, Esther, were walking down the village dirt road, the smell of smoke and the glimpse of fire caught their attention. They walked up to the house where it was coming from and found 2 women, Mangaiyar Karasi and Aruna, baking bread. Veneta and Esther were eagerly welcomed into their humble home, and the baking lesson began!
As these two women shared about the process of baking bread, Veneta began to share with them about the Bread of Life. As she was sharing, 2 other younger women, Gunasundarai and Divya, came into the home. Veneta boldly shared with these women about the salvation found only in Jesus Christ and in no other gods. All 4 women prayed to receive Christ, completely shattering the bondage of their Hindu gods. These women truly had a personal encounter with the Bread of Life!
We plead with you to continue to pray for the lives of the Indian people. Being here and seeing their oppression adds a great sense of urgency to the command of Jesus Christ to carry His Gospel to the ends of the earth, particularly among the Indians at this time. Thank you to all who have joined us in this battle through prayer!
Also please be praying for our team as we have made our split. Bob and I are in route to Machilipatnam to meet up with photographer Trey Hill, and we will be spending the next 11 days “capturing” East-West’s work in India. The others on the team will remain in Pondicherry until Wednesday morning when they will begin their journey back to the States.
Please continue to check the blog as I will be posting a few more stories from our time in the villages as well as updates on our “capturing” adventure.
