Where: As we get to know you, we will help you discern the right team and location to join.
Cost: $20,000 (scholarships available)
Deadline: Applications are due Dec. 1, 2020.
How do I know if Year 1 is right for me?
Year 1 is a program designed to train and empower new missionaries. Are you sensing a call to missions? Are you burdened by the reality of the unreached? Are you wanting to invest your time and resources into what’s eternal? Then Year 1 is for you!
Pre-field training includes ministry skills, a security intensive, and language and cultural acquisition. During the program, you will receive personal and professional development through individual mentorship, small group leadership training, and certified TeamSight consulting.
East-West has ministry taking place in nearly 60 countries around the world, organized into 10 major world regions. Year 1 residents will be assigned to join a particular team on the field. We hope to make this decision together with our residents as we seek to find a placement where they will thrive in their calling and gifting.
Year 1 residents will be fully embedded with a team of East-West missionaries living overseas. This means they will truly get to live out a day in the life of a missionary. This includes living abroad, learning a culture, participating in team meetings and events, receiving training and development, building relationships with the lost, sharing the gospel, and discipling and training new believers.
Cost and Fundraising
Included in the $20,000 cost for Year 1 is all international travel and field expenses, including domestic transportation, travel visas, interpreters, language school, training materials, etc. Residents can expect most expenses to be included, with the exception of meals.
You will receive training and resources for fundraising and a personal fundraising coach. You will also participate in a small group of other East-West staff members currently fundraising.
East-West has a desire to support and empower a new generation of missionaries to the unreached. With that in mind, we have developed a scholarship fund, where selected applicants will be awarded scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.
East-West is committed to keeping our staff safe and secure while serving abroad. To that end, our International Security Team is equipped with years of professional experience for this important service. These individuals establish training and protocols, continually monitor our deployed personnel, and provide 24/7 access to resources and support in the event of an emergency.
We want to give our residents every opportunity to leverage the growth and experience that they have acquired after a year serving abroad! We will work with residents to provide opportunities to serve, either on staff with East-West or with one with one of the dozens of likeminded organizations that we partner with.
East-West began in 1993 with the mission of taking the gospel to those who have never heard the name of Jesus.
Our vision: The vision of East-West is to glorify God by multiplying followers of Jesus in the spiritually darkest areas of the world.
Our mission: East-West exists to mobilize the Body of Christ to evangelize the lost and equip local believers to multiply disciples and healthy churches among unreached peoples and/or in restricted access communities.
