Igniting a Movement

2

By East-West Ministries on Feb 27th, 2013

East-West has always been passionate about mobilizing believers into unreached areas because we believe the united Body of Christ is the most powerful tool for impacting the world with the gospel.

Through our short-term mission trips, we have seen tens of thousands of individuals come to faith. These new believers then begin to spark a movement of the gospel through their own families and communities—igniting a chain of impact throughout spiritually dark nations.

But the lives of the unreached are not the only ones transformed. The ordinary individuals—like you—who dare to go and share the Good News are finding their own faith reignited as they work to multiply God’s Kingdom …

“I began to see God as a universal God and not an American.” –David

“I was reminded of just how powerful the gospel message is … I saw women transformed from being full of despair to full of hope. I saw children dance with delight at the freedom offered through Christ. I saw hard-looking men soften as they heard the message of God’s grace.” –Michelle

“More than ever in my life, I could see a clear example of God’s spirit moving in another region of the world … Now I’ve seen firsthand masses of new believers worshipping the living God.” –Jessica

“It deepened my faith and ability to trust God in a multitude of situations.” –Joni

“It was amazing to feel the Holy Spirit active in me and to see His impact on others.” –Jeff

“It reminded me of the power of love … though I may not be a highly skilled person, I most certainly have the love of Christ to lavish on the people.” –Kacie

“It was the single most exciting and exhilarating trip I have ever been on … It helped me see the world in a whole different light.” –Todd

New Life, New Mission

Chasing the world’s many distractions, Patricia, a young Spaniard, found herself empty. Seeking fulfillment through sin had left her looking for real answers.

One day, in search of a new direction, she came to East-West national partner and church planting pastor Oswaldo Elias de Mattos. Oswaldo introduced Patricia to Jesus, and she knew then that she would never be the same.

Patricia decided that she needed a Savior and immediately surrendered her life to Christ.

Not long after, Patricia began attending a cell group. From the moment she walked through the door, everyone could feel her joy. She had been given new life!

As Patricia grew in her faith, she took on more responsibilities in her cell group. She brings her flute to play during worship and even leads the group time occasionally. She continues to grow through intentional discipleship with a teacher whom she now considers her best friend.

Patricia has developed into a vibrant, Christian woman who is bold about sharing her faith. She tells everyone about Jesus … especially her family. Two of her family members recently confessed Christ as their Savior because she shared the gospel message with them.

Instead of chasing sin, Patricia now chases Christ and finds fulfillment in God’s presence. She desires to be a missionary—reaching her nation and even the world with the message of salvation and forgiveness found in Jesus Christ.

Hope for a Wounded Soul

Eduardo was only 5 years old when his parents abandoned him. Alone, he managed to survive on a simple diet of beans and corn.Eduardo

When he was 12 he married his wife and was adopted into a community of indigenous people with whom he lived for many years.

A few years ago, Eduardo, his wife, and 15 other people were lawfully given a sizable stretch of land that would become a small town where they could settle.

The land had previously been owned by a revolutionary group that was armed and violent. When Eduardo became the leader of this small town, he quickly learned that this revolutionary group was not going to let go of the land easily.

Late one summer evening, nearly 200 armed revolutionaries invaded this small community. They fired live ammunition and set most of the village on fire. Two men were left for dead, and Eduardo’s adult son was maliciously knocked unconscious during the raid. He only narrowly escaped being consumed by the flames when a family member came back to save him.

This traumatic event left a mark on Eduardo’s soul. He found himself turning inward to contemplate suffering, purpose, and hope. Eduardo found the questions overwhelming and reached out to his sister, Manuela, for help.

Manuela is a member of a church community established by an East-West missionary. She began to share the gospel with her brother and encourage his spiritual growth. Soon, Eduardo and his entire family professed faith in Christ.

He knew that the message of unrelenting hope found in Jesus Christ needed to be shared. Now Eduardo faithfully spreads the gospel message in his community and continues to grow deeper into his relationship with Jesus Christ.
